Did you know (original!) the word Gatwick dates back to 1241 and was the name of the manor that was originally on the airport site. The word coming from the Anglo-Saxon words ‘gat’ meaning dairy, which in those days was goat, weren’t big on dairy cows back then (did we have dairy cows back then or are they an import?), and ‘wic’ which means farm. So there you have it, GATWICK means GOAT FARM how quaint and quintessientially English is that??

Anyway, lets move on to the big boys, the business and – ahem, ahem, first class traveller (very BIG boys). and London City Airports are both in London! Heathrow just 22k to the west of central London is the worlds 3rd busiest airport for passenger traffic and takes just 15 minutes to get into central London and City Airport is in Canary Warf, East London and takes about 5 minutes into the west end but having an amazing 63 restaurants and numerous hotels within a 5k radius getting into central London isn’t really such a necessity. For Heathrow, the more refined traveller isn’t so well catered for on the restaurant front with approximately 6 within a 5km radius. On the plus side there are quite a few decent hotels to choose from.
